You will see vivid images of the valley, forest, lake and streams and of course our wolves. The late 'lower valley pack' are seen early on, followed by a tour of the large enclosure featuring the red deer currently occupying this area. It then finishes with a personal introduction to one of our socialised wolves - Kgosi. You will see that the first stage of introduction to our enthusiastic ambassador Kgosi is begun from behind a five bar gate. This ensures that the introduction from both sides is controlled and that if for any reason Kgosi feels unhappy with anyone or thing we can detect it and prevent any possible problems. Remember that however socialised our wolves may appear they are still wild animals. They are only socialised rather than domesticated (a domesticated wolf is called a dog and that takes about 2,000 years of selective breeding), therefore our wolves are quite capable of natural aggressive behaviour if they feel disturbed by something.
Once it has been established that there are no apparent problems, Kgosi can be lead in amongst the group more freely which often takes place on a lawned area. An early control method which Tony taught Kgosi and Madadh from a young age is to sit for a treat which helps to calm their instinctive, boisterous tendencies. Individual characteristics of the wolves will also make them more or less suitable for introduction to people. Firstly they have to have been socialised from a very young age as with Kgosi and Madadh. All contact is dictated by the interest of our wolves, as their welfare is our primary concern. We are fortunate that Kgosi and Madadh seem to be very happy and content individuals who very much enjoy meeting new people and so have proved to be excellent wolf ambassadors on these occasions.
