Night
visits are often held at the Wolf Centre so that visitors are able
to appreciate this other side of the wolves behaviour and their
nocturnal world. Complimenting the day visits which are run
throughout the year they are only run during the darker months
between September and March. This video shows a pack enjoying a good
howl during a full moon. A classically held image of the wilderness
but the truth is the wolves can and do howl at any time of the day -
although they are more active at night and particularly early
morning. Or perhaps it just seems that way when we awaken to the
regular early chorus at the centre. When the wolves are in season and
hormonally more active, their repertoire certainly seems to take on a
more urgent and spontaneous tone.
