Large Carnivore Conference
22nd 28th March 2010
Learn how to identify predator and ungulate tracks and field signs for wolf, lynx and brown bear e.g. scats, scent marks, resting places and prey remains.
Receive training in methods of data collection, use of field equipment and different research methods.
Lectures on the biology, ecology, ethology and conservation problems of wolves and lynx.
These seminars are designed for people with a particular interest in large carnivores, who will hopefully use the knowledge gained during their stay to conduct projects on, spread awareness of or simply achieve a better understanding of large carnivores.
Accomadation is a beautiful, warm pension, high in the Beskidy moutains. You are not required to have any knowledge of the Polish language as we are fluent in English. To ensure high quality teaching the maximum group size is 15 people.
Please note that this is a very intensive course, involving long, hard days in the field followed by lectures in the evening, leaving little time for exploration of the region. Fieldwork can be strenuous, and you should be comfortable with walking long distances (up to 15 km) in steep, rugged terrain. Warnings aside, you will be gaining a lot of knowledge in a beautiful location, and you will have a lot of fun.
Price £375
Includes 7 nights accommodation, fully catered, all lectures, fieldwork & guides and collection and return transport from Krakow to the fieldwork station in the Beskidy mountains.
