Kgosi
is a large, magnificent, black male Canadian wolf who came to Wolf
Watch with his sister Madadh in April 1999. Despite being a most
impressive alpha male his temperament is superb and well balanced.
He
and his sister, Madadh, formed half of a litter born surplus to
requirements. Three months of feeding, bottom wiping and tummy
rubbing preceded their introduction to Ayla, a female European Wolf
who became their surrogate mum. Superseding Tony, Ayla catered for
their maternal requirements and day to day education. Since Ayla
sadly passed away at the grand old age of 15, Kgosi occupies his
hillside enclosure with just his sister. Hes assumed a daily
routine of checking and scent marking the boundaries of the
enclosure. This includes a self-catering programme, often hunting
down big game such as pygmy shrews, voles and the occasional mole.

Because
Kgosi and his sister are well socialised they have been able to
continue the ambassadorial role fulfilled previously by Ayla.
Travelling with Tony to several venues for talks and presentations,
his behaviour has so far been impeccable. When greeting humans his
approach is distinctly different from Madadh. He appears respectful,
without being over submissive and the duration of the meeting is
governed by his interest and not the desire of the visitor.

Kgosis
most noticeable feature is his beautiful amber eyes which indicate a
depth of intelligence and understanding. We have observed with
interest his development to become the powerful wolf of considerable
size that he is today.

To
adopt Kgosi or any of our wolves then click on the 'Join

link here or at the top of the page.
In
the 'Wolf Videos' section on this web site you will find unique
video footage of Kgosi at the centre, as well as all the other
resident wolves. You can reach this by clicking on the link above,
but you will need QuickTime player to view this and any of the other
video footage on this web site. There is a link in the Wolf Videos
page to obtain QuickTime player if you do not have it already.
